Pacheedaht First Nation – Personal Information Protection Policy
At Pacheedaht First Nation, we are committed to serving our members and community with transparency, care, and respect. Whether participating in programs, accessing services, or collaborating with our departments, the privacy of your personal information is a priority.
In alignment with British Columbia's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA), this policy outlines how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard personal information. We are committed to ensuring that all personal information is handled in a manner that a reasonable person would consider appropriate, and in accordance with PIPA.
We will clearly communicate the purpose for which personal information is collected and obtain consent where required. This policy applies to all Pacheedaht First Nation departments and services, as well as any service providers collecting or handling personal information on our behalf.
What is Personal Information? Personal Information refers to information about an identifiable individual such as name, address, phone number, email address, or other contact details. This does not include business contact information used for work-related communication.
Collection and Use of Personal Information We only collect information necessary to provide programs and services or to respond to inquiries. This may include:
- Responding to questions and feedback
- Coordinating community events or information sessions
- Understanding community needs and service preferences
- Sending updates or newsletters
- Administering programs, services, or events
Consent We will obtain consent before collecting, using, or sharing your personal information, except where permitted or required by law. Consent may be given in writing, electronically, or implied through voluntary participation.

Retention and Accuracy Personal information will be retained only as long as necessary and will be securely stored. Community members may request corrections to ensure their information is current and accurate.
Safeguards We implement reasonable security measures to protect personal information against unauthorized access or disclosure, including secure storage, password protection, and restricted access.
Access Requests and Questions Community members may request access to their personal information or inquire about how it is used. Requests can be submitted in writing to our Privacy Officer. If concerns cannot be resolved, individuals may contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of BC.
